We don't celebrate that here in Denmark. Showing your American centrism, yet again, LJ? :P.

Date: 2010-11-25 01:16 pm (UTC)I personally am gagging at her "reality" show which my mother who, despite loathing Palin and her politics, LOVES ("I want to visit Alaska! I've always loved Alaska. That's the only reason I'm watching this!").
I have also recently learned (although it's old news) that Palin wants to be buddies with Hillary Clinton. I'd pay to be able to watch that meeting.

Date: 2010-11-25 01:23 pm (UTC)and lol omg good luck with that. Hillary is way to smart for her.

Date: 2010-11-25 11:43 am (UTC)Thanksgiving is a bullshit holiday* to end to bullshit holidays, my little Danish lamb chop. Be glad it doesn't exist in your country. :^\
Bee tee dubs, you want to know scary? My younger brother works for Walmart (wait, it gets worse) and you know what time he has to go into work for "Black Friday"? MIDNIGHT. I shit you not. Ah, the joys of a retail "Christmas"!

Date: 2010-11-25 11:55 am (UTC)what the fuckD: that sucks!

Date: 2010-11-25 12:18 pm (UTC)But then, I'm biased. ;^) I'm of both "Indian" extraction (Sioux and Cherokee) and one of my ancestors has been traced back to one of the ships that followed the Mayflower (so yes, my ancestors sat on both sides of the Thanksgiving table as well as owning my other ancestors-- I have a depressing history) which I like to think is the early cresting of why my mother's family fights during nearly all holiday dinners. :^P

Date: 2010-11-25 12:39 pm (UTC)Holy shit, that's weird to think about:O. and I lol'd ngl. Then I felt guilty.

Date: 2010-11-25 06:37 pm (UTC)Edit - And yes, I understand the reasons you're against it. I know the holiday's actual origins. For me, it's about the fact that Thanksgiving is the only holiday where my family has generally come together and treated each other with respect.

Date: 2010-11-26 07:11 am (UTC)I never said I was against Thanksgiving, lady. :^P I am against the bullshit "history" behind it (for the record, I feel the same way about St. Patrick's Day-- driving the snakes out of Ireland is just a euphemism for religious cleansing). If one celebrates the core of Thanksgiving, the Pagan part, which is giving thanks for the harvest (whatever the harvest may be), it's all good (in the hood). I just don't (like I said) like the BS.

Date: 2010-11-26 06:12 pm (UTC)And I feel that way about most holidays. Most have a bullshit history.

Date: 2010-11-26 10:55 pm (UTC)Really, I'm FARRRRR more pissed off by Memorial Day meaning fun 'n' sun fuckfest for people than a day of actually honoring our war dead. Thanksgiving at least is good for foodies (and aspiring foodies like myself) and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade (I'm still a sucker for the floats).

Date: 2010-11-26 10:58 pm (UTC)My grandfather really hates Memorial Day for the same reason.

Date: 2010-11-26 11:17 pm (UTC)People bash the Fourth of July, but from what I see, at least it's celebrated "properly"; better people save their summer revelry for then and not Memorial Day. Reminds me of this bitchy post I made; the Opus cartoon really did make me cry the first time I saw it (yeah, I'm lame like that).

Date: 2010-11-26 07:13 am (UTC)Halloween is such a happy, diversity-loving holiday (I actually have heard it referred numerous times as "the queer Christmas").

Date: 2010-11-26 11:00 pm (UTC)Now of course I want to throw you a big gay Halloween party-- complete with foodie Halloween yums and costumery.
GOOD costumery, not that bagged "sexy" shit, too (the very worst aspect of Halloween IMO-- save for maybe the "Religious" Reich nutjobs saying it's Satan's holiday).
Sorry, Louise-- I think I've hijacked your post. *shamez*
